In our effort to be a travel -friendly airport, we strive to make your check-in / check-out experience at Cochin International Airport as simple, efficient and pleasant as possible. We've put together some essential information that you would need to enjoy the experience with us.
Check-in / Check-out:
Check-in starts at least 3 hours before international flight departure and 1.5 hours before domestic departure. Passengers are advised to check with their airline for detailed information. Upon arrival at the airport, please refer to the Flight Information Display Boards conveniently located at the Arrival/Departure Hall entrance, to check flight schedules. You may check-in early at the airport and enjoy transit facilities, food and beverages, and shopping at the airport!
Immigration:
The immigration set up at the airport functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The immigration process is regulated by the Foreign Regional Registration Officer, who is of the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police. He is assisted by the Assistant Commissioner of Police. The Process of Immigration is controlled by a set of rules and regulations issued from time to time.
The immigration process normally comprises 4 steps:

Checking of passport/travel documents to identify the holder and to look out for cases of forgery etc. |

To ascertain the eligibility of holder either to leave or enter the Country as per existing rules and regulations |

Customs:
The Central Board of Excise and Customs, a Department of the Ministry of Finance is the agency that regulates the clearance of arriving and departing international passengers through the International Terminal under Customs Act, 1962. Rules & Regulations under this Act are revised by the Government of India from time to time.
The Commissioner of Customs, Customs House, Cochin - 9, having jurisdiction over the Cochin International Airport, functions from the office of the Joint Commissioner of Customs, Air Customs, Cochin International Airport , Nedumbassery for regulating activities under the Customs Act, 1962 in the entire airport area.
Two main wings under Commissioner of Customs:

Air Intelligence Unit for anti-smuggling work, prosecution and Cofeposa cells |
Air Cargo complex for Import/ Export of Commercial Cargo / Unaccompanied Baggage of Bonded Warehouse (at the Airport), Foreign Travel Tax, Inland Air Travel Tax Units, also fall under the administrative jurisdiction of this commissioner.
Customs has provided a green channel facility for passengers to walk through, when they carry goods within the permissible limit of free allowance. Separate counters have been provided for clearing gold, silver and dutiable goods above the permissible limit of free allowance.
